Dr. R. Michael Meneghini, founder and CEO of Indiana Orthopedic Institute (IOI), is a nationally recognized expert in hip and knee replacement with over 17 years of experience. He is currently the president of the American Academy of Hip and Knee Surgeons. (AAHKS). AAHKS has a membership of more than 5,500 surgeons and other hip and knee health care professionals.
An Indiana native, Dr. Meneghini brings an elite level of care through innovative techniques including outpatient, partial, and revision joint replacement.
A graduate of Rose-Hulman, Indiana University, and fellowship-trained at Mayo Clinic, Dr. Meneghini previously led the IU Health Hip and Knee Center and now delivers superior outcomes across Indiana and the Midwest. He’s authored 160+ publications, holds a professorship at IU School of Medicine, and serves in leadership roles with leading orthopedic associations.
Dr. Michael P. Ast is Chief of the Knee Service, Chief Medical Innovation Officer, and Director of Ambulatory Surgery Center Strategy at Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS). He specializes in hip and knee replacement with a focus on rapid-recovery, outpatient procedures, and advanced techniques including robotics and computer-assisted surgery. He holds the John N. Insall Endowed Chair of the Knee Service and is a member of the Knee Society.
A leading researcher and innovator, Dr. Ast has over 500 publications and presentations on topics such as opioid-sparing pain management, surgical technology, and acupuncture in orthopedics. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Temple University, earned his medical degree there, and completed his residency at North Shore–LIJ and fellowship at HSS.
